Andris Liepiņš

Andris discovered his passion for woodworking at age 19 while apprenticing with his grandfather, a master carpenter in the Daugavpils area. After completing his formal training at Rīga Technical University in 2008, he spent a decade working for premium furniture manufacturers. But his real calling came when he transitioned to community education — that's where the magic happens.

In 2015, he launched weekly woodworking circles at the Daugavpils Cultural Center. What started as small group sessions grew into something bigger. He developed simplified techniques that made precision craftsmanship accessible to complete beginners. Over 200 local hobbyists have worked through his programs, and that number keeps climbing.

What drives Andris? It's the moment when someone who's never touched a saw before suddenly realizes they can build something functional and beautiful. His birdhouses attract rare species to local gardens. His garden benches become family heirlooms. That's the real reward.

He approaches every project with the belief that proper joinery and material selection matter as much as design. And he's committed to teaching sustainable forestry practices alongside technical skills. His work has been featured in regional craft publications, and he regularly contributes to local environmental initiatives by designing wildlife-friendly structures.
